To raise funds for MacMillan cancer support. Macmillan Cancer Support | The UK’s leading cancer care charity
26.2 miles 3,698ft Elevation in 10hrs 39 mins (total of 13hrs & 6 mins with stops)
Getting up at 4:30 am is never easy for me, this morning I woke before my alarm and made my bacon sandwich while packing up my adventure pack. Quick check of the weather and I opted for the shell jacket rather than the raincoat.

There was a slight chill in the air as I drove to Padstow. The parking field was open, and the Marshalls were out in force. Lots of flags and good signage made me feel confident that the event was well managed. Sponsorship from three big corporations: Boots, Welcome Break, and Santander ensures that more of the money the participants raise goes to charitable work. The total sat at £290,000 as we set off with the encouragement to keep posting to raise more.
After a quick warm up we were off. The route was well marked with red arrows and the advice was if you don’t see one for 2 minutes go back to the last one you saw to check you weren’t off route. Each mile ticked off by a small green plaque was reassuring.

The Cornish coast is truly stunning. With its coves and bays and remnants of mining days gone by. We were warned of the cow fields and encouraged to shut the gates to keep the sheep in their place. Glorious beaches and blue/green water filled the horizon as we walked on. The first pit stop at 6.3 miles was a welcome sight with fresh-cut pineapple and bags of nuts we were encouraged to refill water bottles and top up on snacks.
We wound our way around Harlyn Bay and past Trevose Point before breaking for lunch at Trethias Farm a welcome cup of tea and another refuel before heading out towards Mawgan Porth, the steps beat me at this point, and I had to take a break halfway up to rehydrate and replace electrolytes. Thanks to the team who scooped me up and made sure I was okay before continuing. I made it to the final pitstop and took on some more water, fresh fruit and Fredos the snack of champions!
The final push through Newquay town was a long slow uphill through the estates and across the main roads but shout out to the Marshalls who were on the busy crossings and cheering us on to the finish.
Finally crossed the line after 13hrs 6 on my journey. With my excellent cheerleaders who had been commenting on my Instagram feed all day.

So grateful for the MacMillan team who put on these events, their communication and care as you travel around, and for the welcome on completion.
As I write this my total stands at £467 raised which is phenomenal. The total for Cornwall Mighty Hike is £315,921 Thanks for the support and it’s not too late to donate to a worthy cause.
