Employabilty and Cadetship Programme
The Employabilty and Cadetship programme is a full time classroom based provision that supports the young person to prepare for and plan the next stage of their life, following leaving school. Not all people want to attend College after leaving school for a variety of reasons. Others feel they want to begin working or complete an apprenticeship but don’t feel ready for this progression. DHCTA is a bridging programme to enable the young person to find out who they are and gain greater clarity before making further decisions.
The young person is given the opportunity to develop a greater awareness of their personal skills, abilities and areas for development. Each learner will develop a personal career plan following research into different services and careers. There are lots of enrichment opportunities that enable the learner to gain a better understanding of who they are and where they want to be in the future.
This includes: employer visits, employer presentations, talks from professionals about their career paths, talks from previous cadets and apprentices about their experiences, work experience placement minimum 30 hours, volunteering placements minimum 20 hours, clients and service user presentations about their experiences, one to one career planning sessions, speed dating with employers, practical assessments within the simulation suite to embed practical skills and values, health promotion day where students will campaign to peer youth groups and schools and health and wellbeing and equality and diversity monthly schedule to ensure regular opportunities to increase awareness of NHS Health promotions.
The Enrichment Programme is designed to engage the learner and help them to determine which pathway they want to pursue. Throughout the cadetship programme the learners also undertake CV writing, employability skills training, mock interviews and preparation for working. At the end of the Cadetship the young person is ready to undertake their Apprenticeship with their chosen employer.
Stage 2 – Apprenticeship (12 months’ paid apprenticeship in the workplace)
DHCTA would aim to support individuals who choose it to complete a paid apprenticeship programme, while working in a role for an employer. They receive one to one support from an occupationally competent tutor assessor in the workplace and provided with all the support they need to achieve their apprenticeship.
At the end of the Apprenticeship they receive all the support and advice they need for career progression within their choose area. Where possible we support Apprentices to progress to higher apprenticeship opportunities with their employer or move to higher. DHCT has an excellent success rate with excellent learner and employer feedback.
