William Collins BTEC Awards 2017 – Nominee

William Collins works for Brandon Trust supporting people with Learning Difficulties.  He is very worthy of recognition for completing his NVQ in Health and Social Care because he had to overcome many barriers to achieve success.   These included his hearing impairment, his difficulties with reading and concentration and the fact that he works across two services which is hard work, he is a family man and he looks after his parents.

William didn’t believe he could do the course and he was very anxious to start but he whole heartedly committed to his course, and always produced work on time, and never missed a review. William now wishes to go on to other qualifications now such as BSL, I believe level 3.   His hard work, dedication and commitment to this programme,  has I believe, surprised many people, but most importantly of all, surprised William himself. Well done.

Sandra Hopes, Williams Manager says

‘So lovely to share fantastic stories like this and I know from speaking to Steve (William) he is thrilled with his achievement.  Thank you for your support all the way through this journey with him.’

Leah Taylor Winner of Apprenticeship Awards Health and Social Care Apprentice of the year 2016

Leah Taylor started with Dynamo Healthcare Training through a pre-employment training programme that led to her level 2 Health and Social Care Apprenticeship ‘The White House Residential Home in Falmouth’ as a Care Assistant.  She then went on to her level 3 Health and Social Care Apprenticeship and is now working as a shift leader and Senior Care Assistant.

‘I was very shy and nervous when staring my apprenticeship, I had to improve my communication skills and the apprenticeship was really good for building my confidence. My biggest challenges were overcoming shyness, dealing and severe illness/death and time management. My favourite part of the apprenticeship is working with people with dementia and learning the skills needed  If I hadn’t started my apprenticeship I would probably be doing bar work now.  I believe an exceptional apprentice is dedicated, reliable, open minded and has a good sense of humour.  I would advise any new apprentice to not give up, learn to manage stress and stay positive! I would recommend a career in healthcare because it is very rewarding, you always meet new people and there are plenty of opportunities to learn new skills.

I would recommend training with Dynamo because they are very organised and the tutors are very understanding and helpful. There is plenty of support available.’

‘Fantastic Job Leah Well done’ Gail Irvine Director Dynamo Healthcare Training

She is now employed as a full-time phlebotomist at the surgery and has ambitions to go on to university to train as a nurse.
